Considering not everyone is a bookworm or has time to read books in these hectic times, we prepared some movie suggestions for you! Here's 6 different movies on zero-waste lifestyle that you should watch:
The true cost
The fashion industry is a huge contributor to world waste and also famous for its horrible working conditions. This documentary looks at the true cost behind every piece of clothing we purchase and the drastic effects it has on our health, wallets, and the environment.
A plastic ocean
Released in 2016, this documentary focuses on plastic pollution in the ocean. Your heart will be ripped out by some of the stories you hear about the people who live on a plastic filled island with no place to go. Overall, this movie is very inspiring in a “make you depressed” kind of way but does briefly touch on ways to avoid plastic use at the end.
Minimalism
This is an eye-opening, fascinating, and thought-provoking documentary. It focuses on two men, Ryan Nicodemus and Joshua Fields Millburn, as they drastically reduce their possessions and stick strictly to their basic needs. This is an excellent documentary if you wish to adopt a minimalist lifestyle. It addresses in detail, consumerism and how unsatisfying and unfulfilling it can get. You can watch the full documentary on Netflix, iTunes, or Amazon Prime Video.
Just Eat It!
In order for food to be sold at the grocery store, it must meet very rigorous standards – no imperfections are allowed. So if anything is even slightly off, it will be rejected and dumped into the trash. Mind you, this is still perfectly edible food.
This is another excellent documentary from the Canadian couple Jen and Grant. It addresses the issue of waste from farms, through retailers to consumers.
Just Eat It! brings farmers, retailers, inspiring organizations, and consumers to the table in a cinematic story that is compelling and sure to inspire you towards a zero waste life.
The Clean Bin Project
Story line. The Clean Bin Project is about a regular couple and their quest to answer the question 'is it possible to live completely waste free?' Partners Jen and Grant go head to head in a comedic battle to see who can swear off consumerism and produce the least amount of garbage in an entire year. The result is a very honest, open glimpse into just how hard but gratifying that can be.
Forks Over Knives
One of the best documentaries on healthy eating ever made, Forks over Knives investigates whether we can reduce our risk of developing diseases with a plant-based diet so we never have to go under the surgeon's knife. With leading causes of death being preventable lifestyle diseases like heart attacks, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer, watching this film could be a matter of life and death for you or someone you care about.
